Creating More Space In Your Home
It's not easy getting rid of our material objects we love and succumbing to clutter. However, many of us have much more than we really need and we're running out of space to store our objects. We need to learn to create a more spacious atmosphere in our homes. Here are some tips on how to save space.
First of all, throw out anything you don't need. This includes old magazines, bills, papers, and mail. Clothes you don't wear anymore you can give to thrift shops, and give away anything else you don't need. Remember, if you haven't used something in the last six months, you probably don't need it.
There's some storage areas you may not even have thought of that are great space savers. Underneath beds is one of them. Check your local department store or Target for storage boxes that are made to slide under beds. These are great for valuable items, like the epiphone electric guitar you don't want getting ruined, for example. You can store it easily and safely under your bed in a storage box.
As for closets, look for shoe racks that can be hung over the closet door so you can organize stray shoes and get rid of closet clutter. Sweater cubbies are fabric cubes that can hang on closet rods, and they hold numerous sweaters in order to save space. Try finding a small drawer set, if you have room, that can hold odds and ends.
Get rid of any bulky furniture you don't really need or any appliances that could be switched over to smaller versions. If you're using a space heater, try switching to a smaller, more compact version like the Delonghi space heater. Small space heaters can be put in a corner or next to a wall.
The more stuff you have, the harder it'll be to vacuum around all these things. Clutter creates more dust and you'll be less apt to want to vacuum if you can't even get through to an open space. If you have a small home and use a canister vacuum, try using something more spacious like a Dyson upright vacuum cleaner. Uprights can be stored easier in closets.
Every few months make it a point to go through your things and see what you can get rid of. If you can do this, you'll be able to maintain your home and keep it clutter free. Being organized and spacious, and cleaner, will help you feel more organized in your lifestyle.
