How to Decorate Your Kid's Bathroom
When you go to decorate your child’s bathroom, it can be easy to get carried away. But you do need to be sure that the room is functional as well as fun. It doesn’t take a huge remodeling project to create a bathroom that’s a perfect fit for a kid. Often, all that’s needed in a great decorating plan that makes sense. Here are some great decorating tips for a kid’s bathroom to keep in mind.
Get Your Kid Involved in the Decorating
By giving your child a say in decorating a room, you make it much more likely that he or she will use that room and keep it clean and organized. Be sure to consider your child’s opinion (if he or she is old enough) when you are choosing colors and a scheme for the bathroom. See if your child would be interested in helping you paint or making art projects to hang on the walls. By getting them involved in any aspect of the decorating, you will help them to be happy with their bathroom.
Always Remember Safety First When Decorating
When decorating, it’s important to make sure you are keeping your kids’ safety in mind at all times. It’s easy to get caught up in the design aspect of the project and then realize later that you’ve created a safety hazard. This is especially true if you have younger children or toddlers. Remember to add additional safety measures if you do have younger children, such as a non-slip tub mat and a safety latch on the toilet. It’s also a good idea to add safety locks to the cabinets to keep medications out of the reach of little hands.
Be Sure to Add Plenty of Storage and Organization Space
Be sure that everything in your child’s bathroom has a designated place, especially if you want that room to stay clean. When there is plenty of storage and organization space, you child will be much more likely to clean up then if there isn’t a place to put all their things. Place smaller bins and baskets in the cabinets and drawers to help organize them. When coming up with storage and organizational spaces, remember that they can be decorative as well.
Add Style or a Theme with Small Touches
Kids grow up fast, and thus you might consider decorating the room neutrally, keeping the walls and the flooring plain, and then using smaller décor items to add a stylish flair. Then these smaller items, such as wallpaper borders and shower curtains, can easily be changed in the future. Add additional style with items such as towels, baskets, and artwork.
Get Creative with the Decorating
You need to remember that this isn’t your dining room or living room, but your child’s bathroom. Thus, you can get creative and even a little crazy with the décor. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone when decorating this room. It doesn’t need to match the style of the rest of your décor, particularly since the only people who will probably see it are you and your kids.
Decorating a kid’s bathroom is a great project for both parents and their kids. Keep these tips in mind, and you will be well on your way to a great kid’s bathroom.
